On Saturday 26th February 2022, the Director of NNB, Sister Lois Greene received a cheque for €250 from EPS Group, Mallow, County Cork. In support of a clean water distribution project, under the supervision of the Presentation Congregation in the Philippines where a recent typhoon polluted water and made clean water too expensive for those without employment.

Sister Lois explained how her NNB zoom sessions* were discussing the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) over the past few months.  When discussing SDG 6, (the aim of which is to ensure availability and sustainable management of water for all) one participant, Timmy Mulchinock, suggested that something practical needed to be done as a contribution by the zoom group.  He and Eileen Nash prepared a selection of potted plants for sale at the Killavullen Farmer’s** market. The proceeds from the sale of the plants, plus the contributions of the zoom group and the generous support of EPS will enable the Philippines project to bring clean, healthy water to numerous families.

“As EPS is also aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we were only too pleased to support the efforts of NNB to restore access to a clean drinking water supply to those affected by the recent typhoon in the Philippines”, says Patrick Buckley, MD of EPS Group. “We have worked on a number of restoration projects and it’s wonderful that the collective efforts of groups such as the NNB in KIllavullen can make a real and impactful difference to those less fortunate”.

* Lois was appointed Director at NNB at the height of the Covid crisis.  To reach out during lockdown she established several zoom sessions discussing aspects of Heritage, Spirituality and Ecology.  The zoom session dealing with the UN Sustainable Development Goals is shortly coming to a close.  Lois’s next offering is a zoom session entitled Living with the Questions for the season of Lent.
